Dear colleagues,

Season's greetings and a very happy new year!

With the blessings of the Almighty, I humbly pen these lines.

It is indeed a matter of personal joy and success that I took over as the president of the Indian Association of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics (IACDE) after having been the first president elect of IACDE, our newly renamed association. The national conference that was organized overseas at Dubai in December 2012 made it even more special. I shall endeavor to carry forward the high standards set by my predecessors and serve this august office to the best of my ability. We are faced with the daunting task of improving our standards of education and services being rendered to the patients and I seek the cooperation of each and every member in this noble cause. Every effort, small or large, will go a long way in achieving this goal. Here are some thoughts for all of us.

The chief aim of education should be to help the growing mind to draw out the best and encourage them toward research-oriented practices. A rational education means necessarily three things which are as follows:

Firstly, to teach students how to observe and know rightly the facts on which they have to form a judgment

Secondly, to train them to think soundly and fruitfully

Thirdly, to ensure that they use and share their knowledge, thoughts, and skills effectively for their own and common good

The smooth functioning of the association is ensured as it is in the safe and experienced hands of Dr. L. N. Laxminarayanan. The journal will continue to deliver the very best of articles, and my request to everyone is that we should try to use the JCD as a reference journal and try to support the editorial team by citing articles from our own journal as much as possible.

Best Wishes
