"What we do in Life, Echoes in Eternity." --Maximus Decimus Meridius (From the movie Gladiator)
Our specialty of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics provides us with three unique ways of expressing oneself. This triad of capabilities comprises Patient Care, Education, and Research. Patient Care is one of the most satisfying of all as it translates into relieving the pain and misery of the burden of disease. Education is probably the most noble of all as it molds and creates the next generation of torchbearers for the profession. However, Research is perhaps the foundation on which both Patient Care and Education can fulfill their potential.
Good research can make a true difference when it reaches both Health Care providers as well as Health Educators. A journal forms the critical communication link in this regard. Research, which is not converted into publications, will be lost in the sands of time. The above-mentioned quote exemplifies the true essence of converting our research into publications.
The existence of a peer-reviewed journal is to act as the channel, propagator, and custodian of quality research. The Journal of Conservative Dentistry has been the platform for the same for more than a decade now. Our journal was founded in the year 1998 under the able guidance of Dr. Vimal Sikri who was instrumental in nurturing the journal into an eminent national specialty journal. The journal grew immensely during his tenure as Editor-in-Chief from 1998 to 2004. J Conserv Dent saw the next surge in its reach and content under the editorship of Dr. D. Kandaswamy from 2005 to 2007. I was given the honor and responsibility to carry forward the good work in the year 2008. [1]
One of the first decisions of our editorial team was to make the journal online in order to improve the visibility as well as make the reviewing process transparent, blinded, and efficient. [2] J Conserv Dent has been online since June 2008. The next mission was to index our journal in PubMed and to make it at par with other reputed international journals. This task was achieved with the immense help of our editorial team, board of reviewers, our publisher, and above all the quality of submissions, which enabled us to get indexed into PubMed in the year 2010. [3]
The other goal of our team was to have a complete and comprehensive Archives section of the earlier issues of our journal online. The Archives constitutes both our pedigree and heritage. We were able to make the archives section of J Conserv Dent a free downloadable database with articles from 2005 till date. However, it has been a long and painstaking journey to get the earlier issues. I am glad to inform one and all that our archives are now updated and complete from Vol 2 (1999) to Vol 15 (till date). You can access them on our journal website th www.jcd.org.in/backissues.asp . However, the invaluable issues of Vol I (1998) are still not traceable and I would request every one of you to help us in making our archives complete.
It has been and will continue to be our constant endeavor to enrich the standards of our journal.
